Providing Veterans and First Responders (HEROES) in Brevard County FL with a stress-free, healing, outdoor environment. PADDLE. FISH. HEAL.

This event is the rescheduled event from February – Rescheduled due to weather.

Heroes On the Water (HOW), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, that provides our HEROES an enjoyable FREE kayak fishing activity. HOW’s mission is to help our HEROES to relax, rehabilitate, and reintegrate into society through kayak fishing, spending time in the outdoors, networking and building comradeship with other HEROES.

Our motto is PADDLE. FISH. HEAL.

Who are our HEROES?:

Military Veterans (retired/separated), Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, First Responders (law enforcement, fire, and medical services) and their families.

Event Specific Information:

This fishing and kayak event will be held at Kelly Park, Merritt Island, Florida. This is a county park with public access and small business. Parking is first come first serve, do not park on the grass. There is a very active boating area, so please be cautious due to trailering and boat traffic. Look for our banner and canopy. We will launch from the beach.

Getting there:

Kelly Park East, 2550 N Banana River Dr, Merritt Island, FL 32952

same location at the Calema Windsurfing and Watersports.

From Interstate 95 (North or south bound), merge onto exit 205 (Route 528 E toward Canaveral) and head east on FL-528 for about 9.8 miles. Take Exit 52 for Banana River Drive and travel for 0.2 miles, turn left into Kelly Park East. If you are bringing a boat and trailer, travel to the next entrance on the left (boat launch).

HOW events are *** DRUG and ALCOHOL FREE *** and family friendly.

HEROES and guests are NOT allowed to be on or in a kayak(s) during the event without a designated HOW guide or required safety equipment. Everyone MUST wear a personal floatation device (PFD) the entire time while in/on a kayak.

Additional Information:

Water and ice and sports drinks will be provided along with a small lunch. You are welcome to bring additional food and non-alcoholic drinks for personal consumption.

Since this is a water-related event, we suggest you bring a dry set of clothing. Bring a lawn chair or something to sit on since many of our locations are primitive and may not have seating. Please bring your own sun protection lotion and bug spray.

Please be on time, as the weather or the tides could change our event. If you decide not to attend, please cancel your ticket (reservation) on the Eventbrite site. Also, advise our staff via email or text or Facebook messenger.
